Welcome to Front Street the largest art colony in the midwest. Our 66 artists and galleries, 30 photographers, 10 woodworkers, three filmmakers, and locally owned businesses are home to several of the most respected creative forces in the tri-state region, and even across the U.S. Front Street artists have exhibited in the Smithsonian and the Museum of Modern Art, in almost every state and major city in the country, across three continents, and have work residing in thousands of private collections around the world.
For many years, Front Street has been best known for our signature First Friday events, a large-scale open house with studio and gallery tours, artist meet-and-greets, live music, activities, and refreshments. In 2019, The Dayton Daily News' entertainment site, Dayton.com, designated Front Street among its 2018 'Best of Dayton' highlights. By spring, First Fridays' increased popularity led to the debut of a "Saturday After" companion event. In addition, our seasonally evolving 3rd Sunday market (held outdoors in warm months) offers another opportunity to see enjoy month's special exhibitions to the sounds of live music, while also shopping for locally crafted foods, goods, and services.
The Front Street family is distributed among three warehouse buildings dating back to 1850. The massive, red structures have become iconic architectural landmarks on the eastern end of downtown Dayton. Along with our large, local following, our monthly events regularly draw visitors, gallery and museum curators, and buyers from Cincinnati, Columbus, and Indianapolis.
Front Street is in downtown Dayton, conveniently located right off Interstate 35, and just minutes from I-70 and I-75, making us quickly accessible from other parts of the region. Cincinnati, Columbus, and both the Indiana and Kentucky borders are just an hour away, with Indianapolis less than a two-hour drive. With all of downtown Dayton and nearby suburbs at your fingertips, it's easy to plan a day or evening around a Front Street visit!
